Hostel Review: Freehand Miami

You should book a trip to Miami and stay in this hostel! Whether alone or with friends, it’s a fun, affordable place to stay in an expensive city to visit. Not only is Freehand Miami a hostel, but it’s also a hotel, has two restaurants, a pool, an outdoor cocktail bar, a club, is within walking distance from the beach (about 5 minutes), and is just a mile from the south beach nightlife. So right there you’ve basically checked off the Miami bucket list!

The Hostel:

The hostel is precisely what you need. They have mixed dorms and female-only dorms. It’s clean. The bunk beds have curtains at the end for a little bit of privacy, and a little shelf with a personal lamp inside. There are lockers for your belongings and an in-room bathroom. It’s in a great location with a grocery/convenience store across the street, Starbucks around the corner, and other bars, restaurants, hotels, and clubs nearby and within walking distance.

The Broken Shaker:

This is their bar bites restauraunt/cocktail bar. They also have a restaurant called 27 Restaurant with a different menu. I’ve heard great things about it, but didn’t personally try it so I can’t speak from experience. The Broken Shaker was great though! I had the tostones and guac like once a day and I also tried the carnitas street tacos and loved them. My friends had the shaker burger and the falafel burger and were both really happy with their choices as well. The craft cocktails were amazing as well. They were about $17-$20 a drink which is pricey, but is about the average in Miami Beach and were really good. They also had pitcher and punch bowl size options which would be great for a group.

The Eagle Room:

The Eagle Room is the club that is upstairs of 27 Restaurant. It’s a lot of fun! It feels almost like a really cool house party with a DJ. You could be casual or dressed up and wouldn’t feel out of place. It feels like a hidden gem while you’re there. I have a friend who lives there who says it’s one of his favorite spots if he decides to go out. The disco ball was the best part IMO.

The cost when I booked was around $50/night which is honestly a steal. I would recommend visiting Freehand, even if just for Broken Shaker and The Eagle Room.

You can check them out on Hostelworld here and read other people’s reviews, see some more photos of the property, and book a room if you’re ready for a weekend getaway!
