What it's Really Like at Creation Entertainment's Supernatural Convention

Something you probably don’t know about me is that I love the show Supernatural. One of the things my dad and I do together is binge-watch something on Netflix on Sunday nights; more often than not, it’s Supernatural. My birthday falls on the same week as Father’s Day, so this year I made a deal with him that I would buy us tickets to Creation Entertainment’s Supernatural Convention in Orlando if he would pay for our room at the hotel. I’ve never been to any of the comic cons or anything like it, so I wasn’t totally sure what to expect but knew it would be fun to experience at least once.

Before the convention, I did’’t really know what to expect other than some random videos of panels I’d seen on YouTube. So for anyone who’s curious, this is what each day of the convention was like.

Day 1:

Upon arrival, we had to wait in line for our covid rapid test, and then we could check-in. We were there for all three days, Friday-Sunday. After check-in, we were free to check out the vendor room and head to the main convention auditorium. The house band, Louden Swain, opened up the convention and played at the beginning and end of each panel, and Richard Speight Jr. hosted the event. Day one was the smallest event day, which makes sense because it was still a work day. That day the panels were DJ Qualls and Samantha Smith, Julian Richings, Jason Manns, Adam Fergus with Jason Hayden-Jones, and Briana Buckmaster with Kim Rhodes. Throughout the day, there was also a trivia game hosted by Jason Manns and various photo-ops and autograph signings going on. There was a Baby replica all weekend for photo-ops, and people in the vendor room doing autographs and photos the whole time as well.

In the evening there was a free showing of the pilot episode of Supernatural, followed by a karaoke party with several of the cast members. There were also paid events going on after the convention each night.

Day 2:

Day two was another full day of panels. They kicked off the day with the ladies of supernatural! This panel included Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Ruth Connel, and Sam Smith. It was a really fun panel to start the day. Day 2 had panels with pretty much every cast member present except for Jensen and Jared, and Alex Calvert who were all on Sunday. They also had the cosplay contests this day.

In the evening was the Louden Swain concert. The band is really good, but if I went again, I probably wouldn’t pay $90 for the ticket. (If you have one of the admission packages other than general admission, it’s included) They play throughout the convention anyway, so it’s not like you don’t get to see them play at all if you don’t go to the concert. For fans of the band specifically, it would be more worth the cost, but as someone who doesn’t listen to them or know any of their original music, it wasn’t as exciting as I had hoped. My dad and I had too much FOMO not to go though, so we ended up buying tickets the night before.

Day 3:

This was the final day of panels and the day for Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. I surprised my dad with a Jared and Jensen photo-op, and this was the day we got to do this too! Sunday, Mark Pelligrino did his second panel, Ruth Connel did her solo panel, and Alex Calvert had his panel. For Gold ticket holders, Jared and Jensen had their exclusive gold panel this morning.

Overall:

To really make the most of this convention, you really do need to have one of the weekend admission packages, not general admission. The GA seating was REALLY far back, and the assigned seating for the admission package reserved seating wasn’t full, so it all felt really spaced out, and it was a bummer to be so far back. Those tickets also include autographs and photo-ops, whereas with GA, you need to add each one you want individually. When I purchased everything, it was SO expensive that I just did general admission, plus the Jared and Jensen photo, which on its own, was $400. That being said, both of our GA tickets + the photo were cheaper than just one gold weekend package.

The convention was also really unorganized. There weren’t any signs to tell you where to go, and no one from the staff was directing people. When you first arrived, there were long lines for covid testing and for check-in and no one telling you where to go or which you needed to do first. It was a mess. Also, throughout the weekend, if you asked the Creation Entertainment staff anything, they usually did not have any answers. They’d kind of just look at you and then tell you to go somewhere else and ask someone else LOL.

Bottom line:

it was a fun weekend, but it’s really expensive (unreasonably expensive IMO) if you want to really have the full experience and make it worth actually attending rather than just watching videos online of panels. I had a great time with my dad, though, and that was the most important part of it for me!

2017 is going to be a hard year to top for me. Not to say it didn’t have its challenges, but the challenges didn’t even come close to the milestones. That was just the beginning though, so here are my favorite activities of 2017!
